My TSU Web Portal Help

The My TSU Web Portal is a top-quality system for students that provides easy single sign-on access to a variety of online resources and services including, but not limited to, registration, financial aid, bill/fee payment, summary statements, academic history, grades, unofficial transcripts, degree audits, Google Apps (including Gmail), TSU web content, messages, and Blackboard (Blackboard single sign-on will be available in December 2009).

Logging into the My TSU Web Portal

There is no need to remember multiple passwords; students only need to login once via the My TSU Web portal to access most online resources and services. All students will need a user name and initial password to login to the My TSU Web Portal.

Initial Password

All students have an initial password that they will be required to change on the first login to the My TSU portal.  All initial passwords are formulated using the following standard: 

Q + ! +<<Birth Date>> (birth date is in the MMDDYY format)

John Doe’s birth date is 01/01/1988:
Initial Password = Q!010188

Jane Smitherson-Johnson’s birth date is 11/28/1978:
Initial Password = Q!112878

 

 


 

 

Resetting Your My TSU Web Portal Password

The first time you log on to the My TSU Web Portal, you are asked to provide answers to four (4) security questions. To reset your password, perform the following tasks:

  1. From a supported web browser, go to the My TSU Web Portal home page.
  2. From the My TSU Web Portal home page, click Reset Your Password.
  3. Before resetting your password, you are prompted to answer security questions.
    You must answer two (2) of the four (4) security questions; these answers are not case-sensitive and white-space differences do not matter.
  4. After answering two (2) of the four (4) security questions, you can reset their password.

Logging into Blackboard

Single sign-on for Blackboard will not be enabled until December 2009.  Therefore, students must use the following methodology to login to Blackboard:

Students can access Blackboard by entering the My TSU Web Portal and clicking one of the following Blackboard links:
  • On the Home tab in the Quick Links channel
  • On the Student tab, in the Student Services Links channel

Resetting Your Blackboard Password

Faculty & Staff  – The Blackboard password for faculty and staff is the same as My TSU Web PIN. If Faculty & Staff want to reset their PIN, they should contact Human Resources and request to have their My TSU Web PIN reset.

Students – The initial Blackboard password is the student’s date of birth.  To have your Blackboard password reset, please contact the Help Desk. If you are on campus, call extension 4357 (HELP) or complete the IT Request form.  If you are off campus,  call 713-313-4357 (HELP) or complete the IT Request form. On site operating hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday.

If you are trying to log in to the My TSU Web Portal using another web browser, you may experience difficulties.

Getting Out of the Security Question Loop

On some PCs, especially public PCs, they answer the questions, then the questions are repeated again, and again, and again.  They enter an endless loop of security questions.

 To correct this problem, ask the user to perform the following tasks:

  1. The first time the Answer You Secret Questions page displays, enter answer to the question and click Submit Answers.
  2. The next time the Answer You Secret Questions page displays, click Cancel
  3. Exit the browser.
  4. Re-launch the browser.
  5. Clear the history and cache. For instructions on deleting history and cache from various browsers, see Deleting History and Cache from Various Internet Browsers on page 20-21.
  6. Login to the My TSU Web Portal again.

Microsoft Internet Explorer

From the menu, select Tools => General tab => Browsing History section => click Delete => click Delete All => click Close => click OK.

Mozilla Firefox

From the menu, select Tools => Clear Private Data => select all check boxes => click Clear Private Data Now.

Apple Safari

Press Control-Alt-E, and then click Empty.

Choose Action (the Action menu is near the upper-right corner of the Safari window, and looks like a gear.)=> Preferences => click Security => click Show Cookies => click Remove All => click Done.

Accessing Your Official TSU Email (My TSU Mail)

Your email address is <your user name>@student.tsu.edu. This is your official TSU email address and replaces Tiger Mail. Your email address will be the same as the User Name; for example:

  • John Doe’s email address would be j.doe1234@student.tsu.edu
  • Jane Smitherson-Johnson’s email address would be j.smitherson-joh2345@student.tsu.edu

Please note that all official TSU email correspondence is sent to your My TSU Mail address. By logging into the My TSU Web Portal, you are acknowledging your official My TSU Mail email address.

To access your email, log into the portal and click the Email link in the toolbar.
